Tenerife Canary Islands.
A Holiday Guide To Tenerife.
Tourist Information: www.spain.info
Tenerife is located just off the west coast of Morocco and is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, it is affectionately known as the 'Island of Eternal Spring'. Tenerife is home to striking volcanic landscapes and open green countryside and boasts golden and charcoal gray beaches, picturesque mountain villages, pretty coastal towns and year-round subtropical climates. Tenerife has two distinct parts attracting two very different markets and has become a dominant player in the UK holiday market in both the summer and winter seasons.
Accommodation in Tenerife: Hotels and apartments are plentiful on the island with a wide choice of accommodation options, ratings, styles and facilities, ranging from budget, family and tourist grades through to luxury and all inclusive properties. Discount holiday flights to Tenerife are available from all major airports in the UK.
General Facts: The north is cooler and prone to cloud or mist, but is much greener and lush. Here you will find the charming and fashionable resort Puerto de la Cruz with its many pavement cafes and is popular amongst the wealthier visitors in Winter. The south is hotter and drier. Here you will find the resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, both have great sunshine averages, shopping and of course nightlife.
Places to visit in Tenerif:. The best sightseeing can be found in North Tenerife and the interior. Hire a car and drive along the west side of the island to see the dramatic cliffs of Los Gigantes or through the Las Canadas National Park around Mount Teide. Visit Siam Park, the largest waterpark in Europe. The park is filled with adrenaline pumping attractions, animals, children's play areas, a tropical river and man made golden beaches plus a surf school and wave pool like no other.
Mount Teide: The island's central mountain stands at 12,200 feet (3,719m), the highest mountain in Spain. A cable-car ride can take you to the summit where you can marvel at the
views of the lunar-like landscape and volcanic slopes.
Popular Tenerife resorts.
Playa de las Americas. This is a modern resort with an international atmosphere, the resort of choice for pleasure and sun seekers and Tenerife's holiday and party capital. Las Americas is perfect for families as well as young couples and groups of friends. There are eight main beaches, all of which are backed by a string of bars, clubs and restaurants. A fun family resort too with a chance to splash around in the islands newest attraction, Siam Park. There is an 18 hole golf course with views towards the resort center and the sea.
Los Cristianos. Relaxing Los Cristianos is a traditional harbour town with a continental flavor with plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants. It has a small centre with a charming square and a promenade that runs the length of the resort. The resort is tucked away on the south coast, and is the perfect spot if you like a bit of sophistication. The busy and bustling town centre has sleek shopping malls, cafes, al fresco restaurants and busy bars.
Puerto de Santiago has old world charm and sophistication with stunning views of the famous Los Gigantes lava cliffs, it's a quiet and compact resort and is a great location for exploring Tenerife to the full. A small fishing village resort complete with a pretty harbour with a beach, friendly bars and restaurants.
Puerto de la Cruz . A pretty seaside town with a real Spanish flavor and cantered around a small fishing port which remains remarkably unchanged, the resort is great for relaxing and unwinding in the sun. The sandy bays of Playa Jardin, the saltwater pools and waterfalls of Lido Martianes and the alfresco dining of the old town's leafy promenade, all help you to relax and recharge those batteries.
To sum up. This island features cosmopolitan resorts, great nightlife, deserts, volcanoes and breathtaking beaches. We strongly recommend hiring a car in Tenerife to help you enjoy this, the most beautiful of European Islands.
